February 2002
CICH is working with the National Children's Alliance and health professional groups to respond to the Romanow Commission about the health care system from the perspective of children and their families.
We are working with the Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health on a Knowledge Translation workshop to be held in Calgary in June.
We are working in five communities in Ontario with young people in examining environmental health issues in their communities. Three of the communities have large Aboriginal populations.
We are working with the Infant Development Program of Ottawa, other professionals and parents to update a resource book to help parents returning home with their premature baby.
We are working with 5 young people from across Canada to develop a train-the-trainer program to encourage youth to participate in health reform discussions in their own regions or communities using a rights-based approach (Convention on the Rights of the Child).
We are examining indoor air quality regulations in other countries and making recommendations to Health Canada about child health considerations for an indoor air quality framework.
We are developing eight modules for the "e-Parenting Network," an on-line, interactive parenting series that will provide accurate and evidenced-based information on topics such as nutrition, safety, injury prevention, climate change and family relationships. For more information on e-Parenting, click here.
We are working with the Postpartum Parent Support Program sites across Canada to develop their plan for the future.
We continue to provide environmental health information directly to Canadians as the Environmental Affiliate of the Canadian Health Network.
We're working with the Canadian Child Care Federation to give parents and caregivers information and practical tips on keeping the places children live, learn and play environmentally safe.
We're making playgrounds safer by advocating for the removal of pressure treated wood.
We're talking to the media about parent's responsibilities to guide and discipline their children, but describing alternative forms of discipline rather than corporal punishment (hitting); the rights of the child to protection from child-pornography and the needs of children for physical activity and recreation.
And many other things
